Scenic Routes

Scenic routes are the linear corridors that people experience as they travel.  They are the roads, trails and waterways that can be experienced on foot, by car, by bus or train, by bike, by cross-country skiing, by boat or by snowmobile.  Not all linear corridors however are of the scenic kind. Many are functional in nature and are either located or built without an eye to their surroundings. However the scenic routes identified here are special exceptions to this. Many are routes that follow or run through scenic landscapes, special places, mainstreets and older communities.   Some scenic routes are designated as parkways. Some have no designation and without recognizing their inherent scenic value, are susceptible to undesirable change. Initially, the list of scenic routes only includes roads. Other types will be added in time.
